Insulation Removal

Removal of degraded, pest-contaminated, or failed insulation — followed by air sealing and fresh installation so the problem doesn't come back.

Old insulation doesn't just underperform — it can become a liability. Rodents and pests nest in degraded insulation, and the material holds onto whatever they leave behind. Insulation that has been soaked, compressed, or shredded by animal traffic isn't doing its job, and blowing new material over the top just buries the problem.

Seal out pests, not just air

Removal is where the "seal out pests" part of our work happens. We pull the contaminated or degraded material out, then seal the penetrations and gaps that pests used to get in — the same gaps that leak your conditioned air. With the cavity clean and sealed, new insulation goes in on a fresh foundation.

When removal is the right call

  • Evidence of rodents or other pests nesting in the insulation
  • Insulation that has been wet, compressed, or badly disturbed
  • Renovation work that requires a clear attic or wall cavity
  • Suspected contamination that makes topping up a bad idea

A note on asbestos

Asbestos was previously used to insulate homes and was later found to increase cancer risk. Homes built before 1978 are the highest risk, though asbestos-containing materials were used through 1989. If we find suspected asbestos, approved abatement specialists must remove it before we proceed — we don't disturb it, and we'll help you understand the next steps.

Removal, then the full reset

Removal is almost always paired with air sealing and new insulation — blown-in or batts, in cellulose, fiberglass, or rockwool. Most jobs, including the reset, are completed in a day. Book a free estimate and we'll tell you honestly whether your existing insulation can stay or needs to go.
